Performs unskilled and semi-skilled tasks working various assignments in Town service including maintaining Town facilities, parks, and grounds and collecting and disposing of yard debris and trash.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK

An employee in this class may perform a variety of different unskilled to semi-skilled tasks for the Town. 

Employees maintain the Town rights-of-ways and the Town Park and athletic fields, including:

- cutting grass

- edging 

- spraying 

- cleaning 

- restocking bathrooms 

- removing trash 

- maintaining the outfields at the baseball fields

Employees also drive a large pickup truck with a dump bed on prescribed routes and pick up and dispose of limbs and brush, empty cardboard bins at three local businesses, and may monitor community service workers assigned to the route during the required community service period. 

Employees in the class operate a variety of equipment including pickup trucks with dump beds, mowers, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, blowers, pitchforks, rakes, and other hand tools. 

The employees work independently and have regular contact with members of the public. Employees are expected to respond courteously to citizens, provide excellent customer service, and be able to learn and travel prescribed collection routes efficiently and safely. Work is performed in accordance with general and/or explicit instructions and within defined procedures. 

The employees are subject to hazards associated with operating equipment including working both inside and outside environments, in extreme hot and cold weather, and exposure to various hazards such as loud noises, moving mechanical parts, chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, poor ventilation, and oils.  Employees may be subject to the final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens. 

Work is performed under the supervision of the Public Works Director or the Public Works Supervisor.
